WHO Awards

Every year Belfast Healthy Cities promotes the work done to make Belfast and Northern Ireland healthier through our WHO Belfast Healthy City Awards and the WHO Healthy City Explorer Bursary.

WHO Belfast Healthy City Awards

The WHO Belfast Healthy City Awards recognise the work done by groups across the city to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Belfast. The awards have marked the achievements of some of the most innovative, inclusive and interesting healthy living and space projects in our city.

The awards for 2017 will open for entries later this year and the winners will be announced at a special event in December.

WHO Healthy City Explorer Bursary

The annual WHO Healthy City Explorer Bursary was launched as part of Belfast Healthy Cities’ 25 anniversary celebrations. It supports a study visit to a European Healthy City to explore their approach to addressing a key issue relating to health inequalities.

The bursary allows individuals working in the field of health and wellbeing, including healthy urban planning and design, to visit another WHO European Healthy City or National Network to study their approach to addressing a key issue relating to health inequalities.

The bursary is open to applicants living or working in Belfast from all sectors including community, voluntary, public and business sectors. Previous winners of the bursary have travelled to Copenhagan, Galway and Barcelona.
