Pharmacy Schools Programme

Pharmacy Schools Programme

Welcome to the Pharmacy Schools Programme. This innovative teaching resource, is available for use in primary schools across Northern Ireland, with lessons for Primary 1 – Primary 7. It raises awareness of self-care and community pharmacy services for common childhood ailments such as common colds, diarrhoea, hay fever, head lice and sore throats.

Using a health literacy approach and considering the importance of medication safety the lessons enable children to understand health professionals and health services, the role of a pharmacist, common childhood ailments, and how we can access and understand health information. Co-produced with a range of organisations across pharmacy, education, health, community and voluntary sectors and academia the programme includes lesson plans and resources to support delivery of Personal Development and Mutual Understanding area of learning of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

We hope you enjoy learning about community pharmacy and self-care and we would love you to share your learning and celebration events with us via info@belfasthealthycities.com or on Twitter @belfasthealthy
