Belfast Healthy Cities Launch 2019 Awards
2019 HEALTHY CITY AWARDS
Belfast Healthy Cities, the World Health Organization initiative in Northern Ireland has launched the ‘Healthy City’ 2019 awards, which recognise the work undertaken by organisations from all sectors towards improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Belfast.
This is the seventh year of the awards, which have attracted a higher number of entries year on year since their 2012 launch. Voluntary and community organisations; public and private sector businesses; statutory and other Government bodies can enter the Healthy City awards. Belfast Healthy Cities Chief Executive Joan Devlin has encouraged organisations which helps improve the well-being of the citizens of Belfast to apply.
Joan said,
“In the past we have winning entries from organisations which are not typically associated with health promotion or with improving well-being such as the Belfast Giants as well as Health Trusts and volunrary and community based organisations which shows the work going on to promote health and well-being across the city. Our awards showcase those programmes that are striving to improve Belfast as a healthy city.
“I would encourage organisations, whether it is a large public body or a small voluntary and community initiative, to consider making an application in any of our four award categories.”
Wendy Langham from the Odyssey Trust said,
“The Odyssey Trust and the Belfast Giants were delighted to win the 2018 Engaging for Change for the Odyssey Ice Academy. The project works with young people from the care system in Belfast, bringing them together and helping to inspire and support them to become 'Community Giants' in their own areas. The programme, supported by Department for Communities, has demonstrated the power of sport to unite and inspire young people both on and off the ice and we thank Belfast Healthy Cities for recognising the impact the Odyssey Ice Academy has had on health and wellbeing.”
There are four award categories, Promoting Health Equity; Healthy Places; Healthy Living and Engaging for Change.
