Learning from Europe

Learning from Europe

Belfast Healthy Cities has been a proud and active member of the European Healthy Cities Network for over 30 years. As part of the network we have the opportunity to learn about innovative projects across European cities as they try to improve the health and wellbeing of their citizens, while tackling issues such as climate change and health inequalities.

The network is an open and collaborative one, where we share our knowledge on both policy and practical work, with the aim of bringing new ways of thinking and working to each city. We know the benefits this can bring to Belfast, and we will ensure that we will bring the learnings from the best projects back to help us locally, sharing it across local and regional networks, and with our partner organisations. We will also showcase the very best projects from Belfast and highlight their work across the Network.

Belfast has twice hosted the WHO European Healthy Cities Network International Healthy Cities Conference, where members cities and public health experts come together to exhange ideas, learn about innovation from across the network and agree how public health policy can be advanced. The 2018 International Healthy Cities Conference in Belfast led to the signing of the BELFAST CHARTER FOR HEALTHY CITIES which set out the Political statement and action commitments for the WHO European Healthy Cities Network in Phase VII, and which we are now delivering in new programmes in Belfast.
