Healthy Cities 21st Century

Healthy Places Programme

The Healthy Places programme explores how we can develop cities and towns as healthy, people focused environments that lead to improved health outcomes.

What is Place?

Place comprises of the environment in which we live, shop, work, learn and play; the people that inhabit these spaces and the quality of the life that comes from the interaction of people and their surroundings. It means our cities, our towns and our neighbourhoods, and includes buildings; public space and landscape.

Belfast Healthy Cities’ Healthy Places programme aims to support healthy decision making by:

  • Sharing evidence on how places shape and support healthy everyday life
  • Building capacity on how built environment policy can create healthy places
  • Developing tools and models that can help integrate health into policy and practice
  • Piloting innovative concepts and ways of working
