This lecture which took place on 25 October at Titanic Belfast outlined priorities to tackle health inequalities and practical examples of interventions to address inequalities within Northern Ireland, England and across Europe.

Before the lecture keynote speaker, Erio Ziglio, Head of the WHO European Office for Investment for Health and Development met with the Committee for Health, Social Services and Public Safety at the Northern Ireland Assembly providing evidence on the World Health Organization European Health Strategy, Health 2020 as part of the committee's Review of Health Inequalities. Keynote Speaker: Dr Erio Ziglio

Dr. Erio Ziglio has been the Head of the WHO European Office for Investment for Health and Development in Venice since 2002. In addition to his 20 years of work with the World Health Organization, he has over 15 years of professional experience in the academic world both in Europe and North America.

Professor Mike Kelly

Professor Mike Kelly is Director of the Centre of Public Health Excellence at National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) where he leads on the development of public health guidance.Professor Kelly’s research interests are in evidence based approaches to health improvement, public health research and health inequalities.

Dr Anna Ritsatakis

Dr Anna Ritsatakis was appointed Regional Adviser for Health Policies and Equity in Health in the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen in 1988. In that capacity, her main responsibility was in advising countries on the development of national policies for health, based on the WHO Health for All (HFA) principles.

Mr Knut-Johan Rognlien

Knut-Johan Rognlien is the head of The Public Health Unit in Østfold County Council in Norway. He is also the manager of the regional public health partnership The Public Health Programme in Østfold.

Dr Naresh Chada DHSSPS

As a specialist in Public Health, Dr Chada has responsibility for advising on a wide range of issues which include public health development, health promotion, nutrition, sexual health and tobacco policy.
